Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga (May 13, 1967 – July 2, 1994) was a Colombian professional footballer who played as a defender. He was the captain of the Colombian national team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Escobar was killed in a drive-by shooting on July 2, 1994, just four days after the national team was eliminated from the World Cup.
