Shevchenko has also taken up roles as a politician and manager. In 2012, he was elected to the Ukrainian parliament, representing the party of President Viktor Yanukovych. He served as a member of parliament until 2014, when he resigned after Yanukovych was ousted from power. In 2016, Shevchenko became the manager of the Ukrainian national football team. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2016 European Championship.
