Anne Carson was born in 1950. She is a Canadian poet, essayist, translator, and classical scholar. She is best known for her work on Sappho, and for her poetry collections "Autobiography of Red" and "Nox." Carson's work has been translated into more than 20 languages, and she has won numerous awards, including the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry, the Griffin Poetry Prize, and the MacArthur Fellowship.
