After his return from Italy, Van Dyck spent 5 years as a court painter in Flanders. He was appointed court painter to Archduke Albert in 1620 and remained in this role until 1625. During this time, he produced a number of important works, including the portrait of the Archduke Albert and Isabella Clara Eugenia.
