Anton Denikin served as a general in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and the subsequent Russian Civil War. He joined the army in 1899 and rose through the ranks, becoming a major general in 1916. During the Civil War, he commanded the Volunteer Army, one of the main anti-Bolshevik forces.
