Pre-WWI indeed. The Bazar Valley Campaign took place in 1919, not long after the end of the First World War. Archibald Wavell, then a lieutenant colonel, played a key role in coordinating British and Indian troops to quell a rebellion led by the Faqir of Ipi, a religious and political Pashtun leader.
