Briand is most known for his efforts to promote international peace and disarmament, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926. He served as the French Foreign Minister from 1913 to 1922 and again from 1925 to 1929, and he played a leading role in the negotiation of the Treaty of Versailles (1919), the Locarno Treaties (1925), and the Kellogg-Briand Pact (1928).
