Hayek passed away in Vienna, Austria, on March 23, 1992, at the age of 92. He had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for several years. Hayek was a prominent economist and philosopher who is best known for his work on the free market economy and his critique of socialism. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1974.
