Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, stateswoman, and politician who served as State Counsellor of Myanmar from 2016 to 2021. She is the daughter of General Aung San, who led Myanmar's independence movement from British rule. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her nonviolent struggle for democracy and human rights in Myanmar.
