The philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, physician, poet and musician Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyà ibn aṣ-Ṣā’igh, better known to Westerners by the Latinized version of his name, Avempace, was an Andalusian polymath. Born into an influential noble family in Zaragoza in 1095 during the reign of the Banu Hud dynasty, Avempace made significant contributions to his time.
