Basavaraj Bommai succeeded B. S. Yediyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka after Yediyurappa resigned from the position in July 2021. Bommai was sworn in as the Chief Minister on July 28, 2021. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has served as the Minister of Water Resources and Rural Development in the Yediyurappa government.
