Answer
The Báb was a Persian religious leader who claimed to be the Mahdi, or promised one, and that he was a deputy for the Hidden Imam. The Hidden Imam is the twelfth Imam in Twelver Shi'a Islam. The Báb was executed in 1850, but his teachings led to the foundation of the Bahá'í Faith.
