The People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) was a political party in Afghanistan. It was founded in 1965 by Nur Muhammad Taraki, Babrak Karmal, and Hafizullah Amin. The PDPA was a Marxist-Leninist party that advocated for the overthrow of the Afghan monarchy and the establishment of a socialist republic. In 1978, the PDPA launched a coup d'état that overthrew the monarchy and installed a pro-Soviet government.
