The assassination of Lebanese president-elect, Bachir Gemayel, occurred on 14 September 1982 when a powerful bomb exploded during a meeting of the newly elected parliament at the headquarters of the Phalange party in East Beirut. The explosion devastated the building, causing widespread casualties, and instantly killed Gemayel.
