Boganda returned to Oubangui-Chari following his stint in France. In Oubangui-Chari, Boganda became a lawyer, politician, and anti-colonial activist. He became a member of the French Communist Party in 1935, and he was elected to the French National Assembly in 1946. He was a member of the French National Assembly until 1956, when he resigned to become the president of Oubangui-Chari.
