Baruj Benacerraf was a Venezuelan-American immunologist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1980. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1920. He moved to the United States in 1949 and became a citizen in 1956. He was a professor at Rockefeller University from 1957 until his death in 2011.
