Batu Khan was a Mongol leader who conquered a large part of the Eurasian Steppe in the 13th century. He was one of the sons of Genghis Khan, and he led the Golden Horde, a Mongol army that conquered the Volga Bulgaria in 1236. The Volga Bulgaria was a Turkic state that had been established in the Volga River region in the 8th century.
