King Andrew II of Hungary died on 21 September 1235, after a reign of over 40 years. During his reign, Hungary saw a period of relative peace and prosperity, and its territory was expanded to include parts of what is now Slovakia and Croatia. He was also responsible for the foundation of the University of Pécs, the first university in Hungary.
