The Lakas ng Bayan or LABAN (translated to "Power of the Nation" in English), was founded in 1978 by former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., as a political party in opposition to the authoritarian regime of President Ferdinand Marcos. It played a crucial role in the restoration of democracy in the Philippines and paved the way for the downfall of Marcos through the 1986 People Power Revolution.
