Berengar's reign as the King of Italy lasted for 36 years, from 888 to 924. He was a Frankish nobleman who was elected King of Italy after the death of Charles the Fat. He was a capable ruler who was able to maintain order in Italy and to defend it against foreign invaders. However, he was eventually overthrown by his son-in-law, Hugh of Italy, in 924.
