Beto O'Rourke served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He was elected to represent Texas's 16th congressional district in 2012, defeating incumbent Republican Silvestre Reyes in a Democratic wave election. O'Rourke was re-elected in 2014, defeating Republican nominee Will Hurd. He did not seek re-election in 2018, instead running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican Ted Cruz.
