Bhaktisiddhanta accepted asceticism in 1915, following the deaths of his father and his guru. He renounced his family and wealth, and moved to Vrindavan, where he devoted himself to spiritual practice and the study of Sanskrit. In 1920, he founded the Gaudiya Math, an organization dedicated to the propagation of Krishna consciousness.
