Answer
As a fighter pilot, Anders flew the Northrop F-89 Scorpions, a twin-engine, single-seat, all-weather, day-and-night fighter-interceptor. The aircraft was developed by the Northrop Corporation in the late 1940s and entered service with the United States Air Force in 1951. The F-89 was armed with four 20 mm cannons and could carry a variety of air-to-air missiles. It was also equipped with a radar and infrared search-and-track system.
