Binali Yıldırım served as the Prime Minister of Turkey for two years, from 2016 to 2018. He was appointed to the position by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the resignation of Ahmet Davutoğlu. Yıldırım is a member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), and he has held several other government positions, including Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications and Minister of the Interior.
