In 1975, Blase Joseph Cupich was ordained as a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago. He later served as the Bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota, and as the Archbishop of Spokane, Washington. In 2014, Pope Francis appointed him as the Archbishop of Chicago, making him the first Croatian-American prelate to lead the archdiocese.
