Answer
Bram Stoker often visited Scotland, setting two of his novels there. He visited Scotland with his mother in 1869, and was inspired to write Dracula after visiting the ruins of Whitby Abbey in 1890. The setting of Dracula is partly based on the area around Whitby, and the character of Jonathan Harker is based on Stoker himself.
