Although now best known as the author of Dracula, Bram Stoker was better known during his lifetime as the personal assistant of Sir Henry Irving, the leading actor of the Victorian era. Stoker was responsible for managing Irving's business affairs and accompanying him on his many tours. He also wrote plays and screenplays for Irving, and helped him to stage some of his most famous productions.
