Braxton Bragg was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. He was born in Warrenton, North Carolina, on March 22, 1817, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1837. He served in the Mexican-American War and the Seminole Wars before resigning from the army in 1856. He joined the Confederate army in 1861 and rose to the rank of general.
