L'Après-midi d'un faune, is a ballet choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky with some assistance from his sister Bronislava Nijinska. It was first performed by the Ballets Russes in Paris in 1912. The ballet is based on the 1892 poem of the same name by Stéphane Mallarmé. It tells the story of a faun who awakens in a clearing in the forest and encounters a group of nymphs.
