Bruce left Liverpool in 1994, ending his 24-year association with the club. He had joined Liverpool as a 16-year-old in 1970 and went on to make a record 635 appearances for the club, winning numerous trophies including six league titles and three European Cups. Despite his success at Liverpool, Bruce felt it was time for a new challenge and decided to move to Manchester United in 1994.
