After leaving the University of Chicago, Bruno Bettelheim taught at Stanford University. He joined the faculty in 1944 and remained there until 1973. During his tenure at Stanford, Bettelheim was a professor in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Education. He also served as the director of the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School, a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children.
