Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) founder C. N. Annadurai dropped the demand for an Independent Dravida Nadu after the Sino-Indian War in 1962, fearing that the country's unity would be threatened. He believed that the war had proved that India could not be divided and that the best way to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu was to remain within a united India.
