Cai Lun is credited with inventing paper in China around 105 AD. He worked as a eunuch in the imperial court, and was tasked with finding a way to make writing materials more affordable and available. He experimented with different materials, including tree bark, hemp, and rags, and eventually developed a method for making paper from a mixture of plant fibers.
