Belo became a bishop at the age of 40. He was born in 1380 and died in 1466. He was a member of the Franciscan Order and was appointed bishop of Avila by Pope Sixtus IV in 1474. He was a renowned preacher and theologian and was also a supporter of the Reconquista, the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors.
