Carol Moseley Braun was born on August 16, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. She is an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Illinois from 1993 to 1999. She was the first African-American woman to serve in the United States Senate and the first woman to represent Illinois in the Senate. She was also the first African-American woman to run for President of the United States.
