Apart from being a historian, Woodson was also an author. His work included the 1933 book The Mis-Education of the Negro, which argued that the educational system in the United States was designed to keep African Americans in a subordinate position. Woodson was also the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, which continues to promote research and scholarship on African American history.
