Carter Woodson graduated from Berea College in 1903. This was the first time that a black man had been admitted to the college. Woodson went on to become a professor and historian, and he is best known for his work on African-American history. He founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915, and he published the Journal of Negro History in 1916.
