Answer
The human kidney sent to the chairman of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee was part of a series of gruesome murders known as the Whitechapel murders, committed in the late 19th century in the Whitechapel district of London. The kidney was part of the body of one of the victims, Catherine Eddowes, and was accompanied by a mocking letter supposedly written by the killer, Jack the Ripper.
