Answer
French settlements were present in India for about two centuries from the 17th to 19th century. The five French settlements were Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahé, Yanam and Chandernagore. These settlements were located on the Coromandel Coast, Malabar Coast and the Bengal Coast. The French settlements were eventually ceded to the British by the Treaty of Paris in 1815.
