Charles Haughey was an Irish politician who served as Taoiseach of Ireland from 1979 to 1981, 1982, 1987 to 1992 and 1994 to 1997. He was also a member of the Fianna Fáil party. Haughey died on 16 June 2006 at the age of 80 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He had been diagnosed with the disease in 1999 and had been receiving treatment for it ever since.
