Charles Michel was the interim prime minister of Belgium during the 2019 coalition negotiations. He was appointed by the King on 18 December 2018, following the resignation of the previous government. Michel's mandate was to lead the country until a new government could be formed. The negotiations were protracted and difficult, but a new government was finally formed on 28 December 2019.
