Following his arrest on 4 March 2006, Charles Taylor was transported to The Hague, Netherlands, to await trial at the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL). The SCSL was an international tribunal established by the United Nations to prosecute those bearing the greatest responsibility for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other serious violations of international humanitarian law committed during the civil war in Sierra Leone between 1991 and 2002.
