The Watch Tower Society ceased publication of Russell's writings in 1927, due to a change in the leadership of the organization. Russell had died in 1916, and his successor, Joseph Rutherford, decided to move the organization in a different direction. Rutherford believed that Russell's writings were outdated and no longer relevant, and he wanted to focus on new teachings.
