Charles the Bold was the Duke of Burgundy from 1467 until his death in 1477. He was the son of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, and Isabella of Bourbon. Charles was a skilled military leader and expanded the Burgundian state through conquest. He was also a patron of the arts and literature. Charles was killed in battle at the Battle of Nancy in 1477.
