In the 1916 presidential election, for what position was Fairbanks the Republican nominee?

  • President

  • Vice President

  • Senator

  • Governor

Answer

Charles Warren Fairbanks was the Republican nominee for Vice President in the 1916 presidential election. He was chosen by presidential nominee Charles Evans Hughes as a compromise candidate, as Hughes had been considered too progressive by some Republicans. Fairbanks was a conservative Republican who had served as the 26th Vice President from 1905 to 1909. He was defeated in the 1916 election by Democrat Thomas Marshall.
