Charlie Daniels became active as a singer and musician in the 1950s. He was born in 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina, and started playing the guitar at a young age. He moved to Nashville in the early 1960s and began performing with a number of different bands. In 1970, he formed the Charlie Daniels Band, which became one of the most popular country music groups of the 1970s and 1980s.
