Chinghiz Aitmatov was a Soviet and Kyrgyz writer, who is considered one of the greatest 20th century writers of Central Asia. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and served as a diplomat. His works have been translated into over 100 languages and have been adapted into films. Although he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature multiple times, he never won.
