Christian I (1426-1481) ascended to the throne of Norway in 1450 after the death of his brother, King Olav IV, without any legitimate heirs. Christian was the son of King Eric of Pomerania and Dorothea of Brandenburg. He had previously been elected king of Denmark in 1448. Christian's reign in Norway was marked by political instability and conflict with the Hanseatic League.
