Christian IV was born on April 12, 1577 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of King Frederick II and Queen Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. He succeeded his father as King of Denmark and Norway in 1588. He was also Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and Count of Oldenburg. He was a strong ruler who expanded the Danish Empire and led the country through a period of economic prosperity.
