Cimabue was an Italian painter who lived from about 1240 to 1302. He is considered to be one of the first artists of the Italian Renaissance. Cimabue also worked in mosaic design. He designed a mosaic for the apse of the Cathedral of Pisa. The mosaic shows Christ enthroned, surrounded by angels and saints.
